Ingredients

  • 7 tablespoons butter, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg, vanilla, and salt, mixing until combined.
  3. Reduce mixer speed and add flour and baking powder, mixing until the dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch thick.
  7. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch tart pan, pressing it into the bottom and sides.
  8. Trim any excess dough and cover with parchment paper.
  9. Fill with pie weights or dried beans and bake for 12 minutes.
  10. Remove the weights and parchment, then bake until golden brown for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
  11. Cool the tart shell completely on a rack.
