Instructions
- Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a stand mixer bowl and let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture and mix on medium speed until a ball forms.
- Remove dough, spray the bowl with cooking spray, return dough, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- In a large pot, combine water and baking soda, then bring to a boil.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces, roll each into a rope, and wrap around each hot dog, sealing the ends.
- Dip each wrapped hot dog in the boiling solution for 30 seconds per side and place on the sheet pan.
- Brush with beaten egg and add any desired toppings before baking.
- Bake for about 15 minutes until deep golden brown.
