Homemade Bagels
Ingredients
The dough

honey or barley malt syrup
Instructions
- Whisk warm water and yeast in a bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Add flour, brown sugar, and salt, then mix on low speed for 2 minutes.
- Knead the dough for 6-7 minutes until it is stiff but slightly tacky.
- Grease a bowl and place the dough inside, covering it to rise for 60-90 minutes.
- Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 pieces, shaping each into a ball with a hole in the center.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C).
- Boil water with honey, then cook bagels for 1 minute on each side.
- Brush bagels with egg wash and place them on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, then cool on a wire rack.
