Ingredients

The doughnuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose or white whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon all spice
  • 1 flax egg flax egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk, non dairy
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened, non dairy
  • 1 teaspoon molasses

The glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 teaspoons milk, non dairy

Instructions

  1. Preheat the doughnut maker or oven to 375°F and grease the pan.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Add the flax egg, milk, and butter; mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the molasses.
  5. Fill a pastry bag or ziplock bag with the mixture and pipe it into the doughnut maker or pan.
  6. If using a doughnut maker, cook for about 2 minutes or until set; if baking, bake for 10 minutes.
  7. Remove the doughnuts and let them cool on a wire rack.
  8. For the glaze, mix the ingredients together and boil for about 30 seconds.
  9. Dip the cooled doughnuts into the glaze and place them back on the wire rack.
