Crispy Baked Tostones

Ingredients

The plantains

  • 3 large unripe plantains

The oil and seasoning

  • 4 tablespoons avocado oil or other quality cooking oil
  • to taste flaky sea salt or kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Peel and slice the plantains into 1-inch thick rounds.
  3. Toss the plantain slices with 2 tablespoons of oil and spread them evenly on the baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven.
  5. Smash each round to about ¼-inch thickness using a glass or measuring cup.
  6. Brush both sides of the smashed plantains with the remaining oil and sprinkle with salt.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 14 to 17 minutes until golden and crispy.
