Paleo Burgers with Caramelized Balsamic Onions

Ingredients

The burgers

  • pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

The toppings

  • 2 small onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 beef steak tomato sliced into 6 thick slices
  • 1 cup shredded green leaf lettuce
  • 3 medium avocados

Instructions

  1. Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Melt 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and add the sliced onions, sauté until lightly caramelized for about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Add balsamic vinegar to the onions and sauté for another 5 minutes, then set aside.
  4. Form six ¼ lb burgers from the ground beef and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and cook the burgers for 3-5 minutes on each side.
  6. Remove the burgers from the skillet and let them sit for 1 minute.
  7. Assemble the burgers with a slice of tomato, shredded lettuce, the burger patty, balsamic caramelized onions, and sliced avocado.
