Paleo Burgers

Ingredients

The buns

  • 2 pieces green plantains
  • ΒΌ cup avocado or coconut oil
  • to taste salt

The burgers

  • 1 lb grass-fed ground beef
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • as desired burger toppings (pickles, lettuce, tomato, avocado, mayo, mustard, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a pot and prepare the plantains by peeling and cutting them into 2-3 inch pieces.
  2. Boil the plantain pieces for 5 minutes.
  3. While the plantains boil, mix the ground beef with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then form into 3 large patties.
  4. Drain the plantains and smash them into flat 'buns' between parchment paper.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the smashed plantains until crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. In another skillet, cook the burger patties for about 5 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty between two plantain buns with desired toppings.
