Ingredients

The brownie base

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate bar, coarsely chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened natural or dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

The topping

  • 1 cup homemade salted caramel

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter and 2 ounces of chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, whisking until smooth.
  3. Whisk in the sugar, then add the eggs and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  4. Fold in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, remaining chocolate, pecans, and chocolate chips until the batter is thick.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  6. Once baked, pour slightly cooled salted caramel over the hot brownies and spread evenly.
  7. Let the brownies cool completely before cutting into squares.
