Ingredients

The apples

  • 6 units apples (such as Granny Smith, Pink Lady, or Honeycrisp)

The filling

  • ½ cup apple juice
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup finely chopped walnuts
  • a pinch salt
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

For serving (optional)

  • to taste vanilla ice cream
  • to taste caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Pour apple juice into the bottom of a large baking dish.
  3. Use a paring knife or melon baller to scoop out the inside of each apple.
  4. Arrange the apples in the baking dish.
  5. In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon, walnuts, and salt.
  6. Pour melted butter into the mixture and stir until combined.
  7. Spoon the filling into each cored apple.
  8. Bake the apples for 40 minutes or until tender.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving, optionally topped with ice cream and caramel sauce.
