Ingredients

The apples

  • 6 large baking apples

The filling

  • 6 Tbsp packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp salted butter
  • a few drops none vanilla extract

The liquid

  • ¾ cup apple juice or apple cider

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and rinse the apples.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, pecans, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Core the apples, creating a 1-inch wide space without cutting through the bottom.
  4. Place the apples in a baking dish and fill them with the sugar mixture, pressing it in.
  5. Add a few drops of vanilla extract and top each apple with ½ Tbsp of butter.
  6. Pour the apple juice into the bottom of the baking dish around the apples.
  7. Bake uncovered for 35 to 45 minutes until the apples are tender.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream.
