Ingredients

The apples

  • 4 medium Honeycrisp or Gala apples

The filling

  • ½ cup old-fashioned oats
  • ¼ cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • a pinch fine salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For baking

  • ¾ cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix oats, sugar, pecans, cinnamon, and salt, then add melted butter and combine.
  3. Slice off the tops of the apples and scoop out the centers, leaving a ½-inch edge.
  4. Place the apples upright in a baking dish and fill them with the oat mixture.
  5. Pour water into the dish around the apples.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until the apples are tender.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.
