Ingredients

Cauliflower Ingredients

  • 1 head cauliflower
  • 1 ½ pounds cassava flour
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Sticky Sesame Sauce Ingredients

  • ½ cup tamari soy sauce
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons chili paste (such as Gochujang)
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 inches fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the cauliflower into small florets.
  3. In a large bowl, mix cassava flour, water, garlic powder, and sesame seeds to create a batter.
  4. Coat the cauliflower florets in the batter and transfer them to the baking sheets with space between each piece.
  5. Bake the cauliflower for 20 minutes.
  6. While baking, prepare the sauce by combining tamari, maple syrup, sesame oil, rice vinegar, tomato paste, chili paste, minced garlic, minced ginger, and sesame seeds in a saucepan and bringing it to a boil.
  7. Simmer the sauce for 5 minutes until slightly reduced.
  8. After 20 minutes, remove the cauliflower, let it cool slightly, and then toss it with most of the sauce.
  9. Return the cauliflower to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let the cauliflower sit for 5 minutes before serving, drizzled with remaining sauce and topped with extra sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
