Ingredients

The tofu and marinade

  • 14 ounce block extra firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable broth or water
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

Coating

  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1-2 teaspoons neutral oil
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 10 minutes to remove excess water.
  2. Dice the pressed tofu into one-inch cubes.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, vegetable broth, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika.
  4. Add the diced tofu to the marinade and toss to combine.
  5. Transfer the tofu to a plate or bowl, then sprinkle with corn starch and nutritional yeast, tossing to coat.
  6. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil and spread the tofu in a single layer.
  7. Air fry at 400°F for 12 minutes, tossing halfway through. Add 2 extra minutes for crispier tofu.
  8. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and an extra sprinkle of nutritional yeast.
