Ingredients

The dough

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups bread flour

The filling

  • pound sharp yellow cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ¾ cup garlic herb butter, melted
  • to taste olive oil, for greasing surfaces

Instructions

  1. 1. Combine warm water, yeast, and honey in a mixer and stir until foamy.
  2. 2. Gradually add salt and flour in increments, mixing until the dough pulls away from the bowl.
  3. 3. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until slightly sticky but not leaving residue.
  4. 4. Grease the bowl and dough, cover, and let rise for about an hour until doubled.
  5. 5. Divide the dough into 6 to 8 portions and shape into baguettes, then let rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. 6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C), then reduce to 350°F (176°C) and bake for 20 minutes.
  7. 7. Brush the loaves with melted garlic herb butter and bake for an additional 5 minutes until golden.
  8. 8. Cut slices three-quarters of the way through, brush with garlic butter, fill with cheese, and bake for another 5 minutes until melted.
