Ingredients

  • cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3½ to 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup cornmeal

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar and warm water, then sprinkle in the yeast and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  2. Once the yeast is foamy, stir in the oil and salt.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a slightly sticky ball forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough inside, and cover it to rise until doubled in size (30-45 minutes).
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it in half.
  7. Flatten each half into a 12-inch pizza round.
  8. Preheat the oven to 475°F and sprinkle cornmeal on the baking surface.
  9. Transfer the flattened dough to the surface, add toppings, and bake for 14-15 minutes until golden.
