Ingredients

The potatoes

  • 4 medium potatoes (Russet, Yukon Gold, or red)

The mix-ins

  • to taste butter (or margarine, or non-dairy butter)
  • to taste milk (or cream, or dairy replacement)
  • 1-2 teaspoons salt
  • to taste pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice the potatoes, then place them in a pot and cover with cold water. Salt the water well.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Boil the potatoes until tender, about 8 to 12 minutes, then drain them.
  4. Mash the potatoes in the pot using a fork or potato masher.
  5. Add butter and a splash of milk or cream, then mix in salt and pepper to taste. Adjust ingredients as needed.
