Homemade Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

The potatoes

  • 2 large russet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 5–6 medium white potatoes or yukon gold

The creamy mixture

  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 3 oz cream cheese

The seasonings

  • 2 ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoon salt

For garnish

  • to taste parsley, fresh cracked pepper or chives

Instructions

  1. Cut the potatoes into quarters, rinse thoroughly, and add to a large pot with enough water to cover them.
  2. Bring the potatoes to a boil and cook until fork tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add butter and milk, simmering and whisking until the butter is melted and the milk is warm.
  4. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot, adding cream cheese, the milk/butter mixture, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mash the potatoes to your desired consistency and adjust salt to taste.
  6. Serve the mashed potatoes hot.
