Homemade Mashed Potatoes

The potatoes

russet potatoes, peeled and diced

white potatoes or yukon gold
The creamy mixture

milk

unsalted butter

cream cheese
The seasonings

Instructions
- Cut the potatoes into quarters, rinse thoroughly, and add to a large pot with enough water to cover them.
- Bring the potatoes to a boil and cook until fork tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, add butter and milk, simmering and whisking until the butter is melted and the milk is warm.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot, adding cream cheese, the milk/butter mixture, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mash the potatoes to your desired consistency and adjust salt to taste.
- Serve the mashed potatoes hot.
