Ingredients

The dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract

The mix-ins

  • 1 cup mini M&Ms
  • 2 Tablespoons mini M&Ms (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then add the sugars and beat until combined.
  3. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, then fold in the mini M&Ms.
  5. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll the chilled dough into balls and place them on the baking sheets, spaced apart.
  8. Bake for 11-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  10. Press additional M&Ms on top while still warm, if desired.
