Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces semisweet or milk chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • ½ cup butter, cut into eight pieces
  • cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

The mix-ins

  • ¾ cup M&M’s

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. 2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. 3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and butter, microwaving in intervals until melted and smooth.
  4. 4. Let the chocolate mixture cool slightly, then mix in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until combined.
  5. 5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the chocolate mixture, mixing on low speed.
  6. 6. Fold in the M&M’s with a wooden spoon.
  7. 7. Line baking sheets with parchment paper and drop tablespoonfuls of dough onto the sheets, spacing them apart.
  8. 8. Bake for 13-14 minutes until slightly flattened and cracked on the surface.
  9. 9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
