Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk

The mix-ins

  • ½ cup M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a baking sheet.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar, whisking until smooth.
  4. Add the vanilla and egg yolk to the sugar mixture and whisk until well combined.
  5. Stir in the flour mixture until just combined, then fold in the M&Ms.
  6. Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 9 to 12 minutes.
  7. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a cooling rack.
