Ingredients

Baked Tofu

  • 14 ounce block extra firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Sesame Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • ½ cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • sliced optional green onions
  • for serving optional rice and broccoli

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Slice the tofu into 1-inch cubes and toss with oil, corn starch, soy sauce, and salt.
  4. Spread the tofu in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown, stirring halfway through.
  5. Meanwhile, make the sesame sauce by sautéing ginger and garlic in sesame oil until golden.
  6. Add vegetable broth, brown sugar, soy sauce, and rice vinegar to the pot and bring to a simmer.
  7. Mix cornstarch and water to form a slurry, then stir it into the sauce and simmer until thickened.
  8. Toast sesame seeds in a small pan until aromatic.
  9. Toss the baked tofu in the sesame sauce and toasted sesame seeds, then serve with rice, broccoli, and green onions.
