Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup melted brown butter
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 envelope instant or rapid rise yeast (approx. 2 ¼ tsp)
  • 1 large egg

Cinnamon-Sugar Filling Ingredients

  • cup granulated sugar
  • cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • cup melted brown butter

Brown Butter Cream Cheese Frosting Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp melted brown butter
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 Tbsp milk (if needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the brown butter by heating it in the microwave or on the stove until it turns amber.
  2. Heat the milk until lukewarm and mix it with the melted brown butter.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 cups of flour, sugar, and salt.
  4. Combine the yeast and lukewarm milk mixture in a stand mixer, then add the flour mixture and egg, mixing until combined.
  5. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, then let it rest covered for 10 minutes.
  6. Make the filling by mixing the sugars and cinnamon in a bowl.
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread melted brown butter over it, and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  8. Roll the dough tightly, cut into 12 equal pieces, and place in a greased baking dish to rise for 25 minutes.
  9. Bake the rolls at 350°F for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  10. Prepare the frosting by whisking melted brown butter and cream cheese, then add powdered sugar and milk as needed.
  11. Drizzle the frosting over the warm rolls and serve.
