Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

Filling

  • 6 to 7 tablespoons butter
  • cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons flour

Frosting

  • 3 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk or heavy cream
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk until scalded and pour it into a stand mixer bowl.
  2. Add butter, sugar, and salt, then mix until melted and cool to warm.
  3. Add yeast and egg, then mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add flour until the dough clears the sides of the bowl.
  5. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes until soft and slightly sticky.
  6. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter on top.
  8. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over the butter, and pat down.
  9. Roll the dough tightly starting from one long end and seal the seam.
  10. Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces.
  11. Place rolls in a greased 9X13-inch pan and let rise until puffy, about 1 to 1 ½ hours.
  12. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 18-22 minutes until slightly golden.
  13. Prepare the icing by whipping cream cheese and butter, then adding milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar.
  14. Spread icing on warm rolls and serve.
