Ingredients

  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped
  • cup unsweetened or Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 2 ⅓ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable, canola, or avocado oil
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9x13-inch metal pan with aluminum foil, lightly greased.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together boiling water and chopped chocolate until smooth. If needed, microwave for 20-30 seconds to fully melt.
  3. Add cocoa powder and whisk until combined.
  4. Mix in sugar, oil, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Stir in flour and salt until just combined, then fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is crackly and the sides are set.
  7. Cool completely before cutting.
