Easy Homemade Turkey Gravy

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 4-6 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 4 cups turkey broth or chicken broth
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ – 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning or sage (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk until well blended.
  3. Add additional flour one tablespoon at a time until the roux thickens and looks dull.
  4. Cook the roux over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until it has a nutty smell.
  5. Add two cups of stock to the roux, one cup at a time, whisking until well blended.
  6. Pour off the drippings from the roasting pan and add one cup of water to it.
  7. Heat the roasting pan over medium heat, scraping the bits off the bottom.
  8. Strain the broth from the roasting pan and add it to the turkey gravy, whisking until blended.
  9. If the gravy is too thick, add more stock as needed and taste to reseason.
