Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4 ounces coarsely chopped dark or semisweet chocolate
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

The coating

  • 12 cookies Oreo cookies, finely-crumbled

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Melt the chopped chocolate with the butter in a double-boiler or microwave, stirring frequently.
  4. Transfer the melted chocolate mixture to a stand mixer, add sugar, eggs, and vanilla, and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the flour mixture on low speed, then fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Form the batter into tablespoon-sized balls and roll each in the crumbled Oreos.
  7. Place the dough balls on parchment-lined baking sheets, spaced 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the cookies are flat and surfaces begin to crack.
  9. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
