Ingredients

The shrimp

  • 1 pound extra large shrimp, 26/30, with shells and tails on

The cooking base

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed or coarsely chopped
  • ¼ cup shallot, chopped
  • kosher salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 12 ounces lager-style beer
  • ½ lemon plus more for garnish
  • ¼ cup flat-leaf parsley, chopped

For serving

  • sourdough bread for dipping

Instructions

  1. Rinse the shrimp and set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the garlic and shallot, cooking until soft and translucent.
  4. Season with kosher salt and black pepper.
  5. Add the beer and shrimp to the pan, cover, and cook until the shrimp become opaque, about 4-5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and squeeze juice of ½ lemon into the broth, then sprinkle with parsley.
  7. Serve with sliced sourdough bread for dipping.
