Old-Fashioned Butter Spritz Cookies

The cookie dough

egg, beaten and at room temperature

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400° F.
- In a stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add the flour, salt, egg, and vanilla extract, and beat until just combined.
- If using food coloring, add it and beat until incorporated.
- Fill your cookie press with about ¼ of the dough.
- Press the cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Add sprinkles if desired.
- Bake for 6 to 8 minutes until the cookies are set but not browned.
- Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
