Ingredients

The dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2⅓ cups all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Optional decorations

  • to taste gel food coloring
  • to taste sprinkles
  • to taste chocolate chips
  • to taste melted chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare baking sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until smooth, then add the egg and extracts and mix well.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until combined.
  4. Use a cookie press to shape the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  5. If desired, decorate with sprinkles or chocolate chips before baking.
  6. Bake for 7-9 minutes until lightly browned on the edges.
  7. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
