Ingredients

The dough

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract

For decorating

  • to taste colored sugar or candies

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and optionally line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. 3. In a mixer, beat the shortening and sugar until smooth.
  4. 4. Add the egg and almond extract, and mix well.
  5. 5. Gradually add the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. 6. Fill the cookie press with dough and press cookies onto baking sheets.
  7. 7. Decorate with colored sugar or candies as desired.
  8. 8. Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. 9. Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
