Ingredients

Carne Asada Marinade

  • 1½ to 2 pounds skirt, flank, or flap steak
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground chipotle chili pepper
  • ½ bunch fresh cilantro

Tacos

  • ½ red onion sliced into ¼-inch rounds
  • 1 medium avocado
  • 8 taco-size tortillas
  • ½ bunch chopped cilantro
  • 2 limes quartered

Instructions

  1. Marinate the steak in a mixture of marinade ingredients for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  2. Preheat the broiler and place the steak on a baking sheet with onion rounds around it.
  3. Broil the steak and onions for 4 to 6 minutes per side, checking the temperature of the steak.
  4. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing it against the grain.
  5. Warm the tortillas and assemble the tacos with sliced carne asada, onions, avocado, and cilantro.
