Ingredients

The dough

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ¾ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

The chocolate

  • cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until creamy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt, then add to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  6. After chilling, let the dough sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Roll the dough into balls and place them on the baking sheets, spaced apart.
  9. Bake for 11-12 minutes until barely golden brown around the edges.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
