Ingredients

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 heaping cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and/or chunks

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. 2. In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. 3. Cream the softened butter until pale and fluffy, then mix in granulated and brown sugars until smooth.
  4. 4. Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until blended, and scrape the bowl as needed.
  5. 5. Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. 6. Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  7. 7. Roll the dough into 1½-inch balls and place them on the baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. 8. Bake the cookies for about 10 minutes until the edges start to brown.
  9. 9. Remove from the oven, drop the baking sheets to release air bubbles, and return to the oven for an additional 2 minutes.
  10. 10. Cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
