Ingredients

The dough

  • 1 package active dry yeast or 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • ½ cup warm water
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 ¼ - 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

The topping

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ⅛ to ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • pinch dried oregano
  • to taste Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine water and yeast in a large mixing bowl and let it sit until foamy.
  2. Add milk, sugar, salt, and melted butter, then stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 ½ to 2 hours until doubled.
  6. Punch down the dough and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Divide the dough into about 12 pieces and shape each into a 6-7 inch rope.
  8. Place the ropes on the baking sheet, cover, and let rise for about 25 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 400°F during the last 10 minutes of rising.
  10. Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with desired toppings.
