Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 4-5 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream, half-and-half, or whole milk, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • to taste salt

Instructions

  1. Beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy.
  2. Add 4½ cups of confectioners’ sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, and mix on low speed for 30 seconds.
  3. Increase to medium-high speed and beat for 2 minutes.
  4. Taste the frosting and add a pinch of salt if it is too sweet.
  5. Adjust the consistency by adding more confectioners’ sugar if too thin or more heavy cream if too thick.
  6. Use immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
