Ingredients

The chicken

  • 1½ to 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper

The sauce

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 3 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Whisk together barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and water in a bowl.
  2. Pat chicken breasts dry and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat and lightly brown the chicken.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and bring to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Flip the chicken, cover again, and continue cooking until fully cooked.
  7. Transfer chicken to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes.
  8. Shred the chicken and return it to the sauce, stirring to coat.
