Ingredients

The meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon oil

The sweet and sour sauce

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sweet chili sauce
  • cup light brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Combine the meatball ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1-1/2 inches wide.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the meatballs until browned on all sides, then remove them from the pan.
  4. In the same skillet, heat oil and sauté garlic until fragrant, then add water, vinegar, sweet chili sauce, sugar, and salt, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry, add it to the skillet, and simmer until thickened.
  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet and stir until coated in the sauce.
