Ingredients

The tofu

  • 16 ounce block super firm tofu

The sauce and seasonings

  • cup sweet BBQ sauce
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil or other neutral cooking oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Grate the tofu using a box grater along the short edge to create long shreds.
  3. Toss the shredded tofu with oil and salt in a bowl.
  4. Spread the tofu in a thin layer on a parchment-paper lined half sheet pan.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and starting to crisp around the edges.
  6. Remove from the oven and toss the tofu with BBQ sauce, chili powder, and smoked paprika.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 6-8 minutes until firm and sticky.
  8. Serve the shredded tofu in tacos, quesadillas, or sandwiches.
