Ingredients

The battered cauliflower

  • 1 large cauliflower
  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

The sauce

  • 1 teaspoon oil of choice
  • ¾ cup low sodium vegetable broth
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine milk, flour, and spices to form a batter.
  3. Dip each cauliflower piece in the batter until fully coated and place on the baking sheet.
  4. Bake the cauliflower for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  5. While the cauliflower bakes, heat oil in a saucepan and add the remaining sauce ingredients except for cornstarch.
  6. Heat the sauce for 2-3 minutes, then add cornstarch and whisk until thickened.
  7. Once the cauliflower is golden brown, toss it in the sauce until fully coated.
