Instructions
- Combine water and milk in a large saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Melt coconut oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat, then add the oats and toast for about 2 minutes until golden and fragrant.
- Stir the toasted oats into the simmering liquid and reduce heat to maintain a gentle simmer.
- Cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick.
- Add salt and continue to simmer until almost all liquid is absorbed, about 10 more minutes.
- Remove from heat, stir in any desired mix-ins, and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Portion into bowls and add toppings as desired.
