Chocolate Sugar Cookies

The cookie dough

Instructions
- Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until smooth, then add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. If dough is too soft, add more flour.
- Divide the dough into two halves and roll each half out to ¼-inch thickness on parchment paper dusted with cocoa powder.
- Chill the rolled-out dough for at least 1-2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cut the chilled dough into shapes using cookie cutters and place on baking sheets.
- Bake for 11-12 minutes until edges are set, then cool on a wire rack.
- Prepare icing and decorate the cooled cookies as desired.
