Ingredients

The tofu

  • 1 lb block of tofu

The marinade

  • ¼ cup light soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 4 teaspoons agave
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons water

For cooking

  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes and cut it into 1-inch pieces.
  2. In a bowl, combine the pressed tofu with soy sauce and toss to coat.
  3. Add the remaining marinade ingredients and toss to thoroughly combine.
  4. Let the tofu marinate for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 days.
  5. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Add the marinated tofu to the pan and cook until crisp and browned on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Whisk cornstarch into the leftover marinade and add it to the pan after the tofu is cooked.
  8. Stir to combine and let it sit for 2 minutes before serving.
