Ingredients

The tofu and marinade

  • 1 block extra firm tofu
  • ¼ cup vegetable broth
  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil

For serving

  • ¼ cup sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a small dish, mix the marinade ingredients together.
  3. Slice the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes and add to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are coated.
  4. Marinate the tofu for at least 15 minutes, up to 24 hours.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add peanut oil.
  6. Add the marinated tofu to the skillet and drizzle with extra soy sauce.
  7. Cook the tofu for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Add an extra tablespoon of nutritional yeast towards the end of cooking and sauté for another minute.
  9. Serve topped with black pepper and green onions.
