Ingredients

The tofu and marinade

  • 14 ounce extra firm tofu
  • ¼ cup vegetable broth
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

The cooking oil

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons canola oil

Instructions

  1. Cut the tofu into ½-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together vegetable broth, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, apple cider vinegar, honey or maple syrup, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  3. Add the cubed tofu to the marinade and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add enough oil to coat the pan.
  5. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu pieces (in batches if necessary) and pan-fry until golden brown on all sides, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Remove the tofu from the skillet and serve as desired.
