Ingredients

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbsp lard or butter, softened
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl, then add butter and mix until it resembles a coarse meal.
  2. Pour in water gradually to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 6-8 minutes until soft and elastic.
  4. Divide the dough into about 12 pieces and let it rest for 20-30 minutes, covered lightly.
  5. Roll out each piece of dough from the center outward until thin.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each tortilla for about 1 minute on one side until light brown spots appear.
  7. Flip and cook for an additional 20-30 seconds until tender.
  8. Remove and keep warm in a covered container while cooking the remaining tortillas.
