Caramel Apples

The caramel

heavy cream
The chocolate

chocolate chips or candy melts
The toppings

assorted toppings (chopped nuts, candies, etc.)
Instructions
- Scrub the apples under hot running water to remove wax and dry them.
- Line a tray or baking sheet with wax paper and insert a stick into the stem end of each apple.
- Microwave caramels and cream in a bowl for 1 minute, stir, and continue microwaving in 10- to 20-second intervals until smooth.
- Dip each apple in the melted caramel, scraping off excess, and place on the baking sheet.
- Chill the apples until the caramel sets, about 30 minutes.
- Melt the chocolate or candy melts in the microwave in 30-second increments until smooth.
- Dip each apple halfway into the melted chocolate and roll in selected toppings.
- Chill until completely set, then serve or store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
