Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken legs
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground chipotle powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground mustard seed
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground pepper
  • ½ cup bbq sauce (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to 425ºF.
  2. Mix all the spices together in a small bowl to create the dry rub.
  3. Coat each chicken leg with 1-2 teaspoons of dry rub, ensuring full coverage.
  4. Spray grill grates with nonstick cooking spray or rub with olive oil.
  5. Grill the chicken legs over direct heat for 15-20 minutes, rotating every 5 minutes, until they reach an internal temperature of 160ºF – 165ºF.
  6. Remove the chicken legs from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  7. Serve the chicken legs as is or with BBQ sauce.
