Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef 80/20
  • ½ cup onions, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Preheat the smoker to 250 degrees.
  2. Remove the ground beef from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for 30 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, diced onions, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, table salt, and black pepper.
  4. Mix the ingredients gently to avoid overhandling the meat.
  5. Portion the mixture into 8 oz balls and form thick patties.
  6. Add wood chips to the smoke tube (hickory is recommended).
  7. Place the patties directly on the smoker rack with a drip pan underneath.
  8. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees, approximately 1 hour, flipping halfway through.
  9. When done, add cheese and cook for an additional 5 minutes until melted.
  10. Serve the burgers on buns with your choice of toppings.
