Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. grass fed ground beef (80/20 or 85/15)
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Divide the ground beef into 4 (1/2 pound) or 6 (1/3 pound) patties and form them into 1" thick patties slightly larger than the buns.
  2. Indent the center of each patty with your thumb and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat the grill to medium-high heat (about 350-400°F).
  4. Place the patties on the grill, close the lid, and sear for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  5. Flip the burgers and grill for an additional 2-3 minutes for rare, 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or 6-7 minutes for medium well, checking with a thermometer.
  6. If adding cheese, place it on the burgers in the last minute of grilling and close the lid to melt.
  7. Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve the burgers as desired.
