Ingredients

  • 7 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1 1/2-inch chunks
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (required for canning)

Instructions

  1. Combine apples with enough water in a large saucepan to prevent sticking and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer until apples are tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat, cool slightly, and blend until smooth.
  4. Return the mixture to the pan, add sugar and lemon juice, and bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
  5. Adjust sweetness with additional sugar if desired.
